Freddie Joe Hollingsworth was born on January 3, 1929 in Petal, MS to his parents, Charles Barto and Ruby Creel Hollingsworth. They moved to the Stratton Community in Newton County, MS in 1934. He graduated from Stratton High School and attended East Central Community College. After getting his degree in Highway Engineering, he worked for 39 years for MDOT. After retirement, he and his wife, Dot Hollingsworth traveled and enjoyed working in their yard, growing vegetables and sharing them with friends and neighbors.
Mr. Hollingsworth was a faithful and active member of First Baptist Church, Union, MS. He served as a member of the Deacon Council for many years, Sunday School Clerk, Director of the Senior Adult Group, S.A.L.T. and on the Transportation Committee. The children of the church knew him as "Mr. Freddie Joe".
He is survived by his beloved wife, Darthelia "Dot" Butts Hollingsworth; one son, Fred Allen Hollingsworth and wife, Fran of Kenner, LA; two daughters: Dianne Hollingsworth Clemons and husband, Mark of Kerrville, TX and Jane Hollingsworth Space and husband, Chuck of Austin, TX; eight grandchildren: Holly Hollingsworth Cooney and husband, Rob of Kenner, LA; Heather Hollingsworth Thompson and husband, Pete of Brooklyn, NY; Kimberly Hollingsworth of Portland, OR; Kyle Hollingsworth of Los Angeles, CA; James Clemons of Tokyo, Japan; Lauren Clemons Thompson and husband, Shaun of Mansfield, TX; Chris Space and wife, Traysi; Carter Space of Austin, TX; nine great grandchildren: twin boys, Charlie and Joey Cooney, Maddie Cooney of Kenner, LA; twin boys, Miles and Anders Hollingsworth, Caleb Hollingsworth of Portland, OR; Mei Space of Austin, TX; and twin boys, Zad and Zeke Thompson of Mansfield, TX; two sisters: Charlotte Hollingsworth Nicholson of Linwood, MS and Shirley Hollingsworth Allen of Ridgeland, MS and one sister-in-law, Marie Culpepper Hollingsworth of Decatur, MS.
Services will be held Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 11:00am at First Baptist Church, Union, MS with Dr. Jon Martin officiating. Interment will be at Union Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 11, 2016 from 5:00 to 8:00pm at Stephens Funeral Home, Union, MS.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Haiti's Eden Mission Trip, c/o First Baptist Church, 400 Main Street, Union, MS 39365.
