Frederick Joseph Drach passed away Jan. 3, 2018, after a seven year battle with leukemia and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). Despite his illness, Fritz enjoyed life to its very fullest with his family and friends.

Fritz was born in Ferdinand, Indiana, to Anthony and Mary Drach. He graduated from St.
Ferdinand High School in 1964. From there, Fritz attended St. Bernard College in Alabama, where he was a member of their state championship-winning basketball team and graduated in 1968. Fritz joined the Marine Corps after college. He served in the Corps for three years, which included time in Vietnam.

In1969, Fritz met his best friend and love of his life in Monterey, Calif., Sherron Laine. Fritz and Sherry married in 1971 and moved from California to Portland in 1973. In 1974, Fritz and Sherry had their only son Peter. Fritz, Sherry, and Peter were a fantastic family. Peter cherished spending time with his dad,
from childhood right until his passing. Fritz and Sherry were happily married for 46 years until Sherry's passing last July from t-cell lymphoma.

After retiring from Fred Meyer in 2010 (after 38 good years), Fritz developed a love for razor clamming, hunting, surf fishing, crabbing, and mushroom hunting, much to the delight of his family and friends who benefited from his skills. When Fritz's only grandson was born in 2013, he quickly learned to love a new activity- playing with Tyson. His favorite question, which he heard often, was "Play, Papa?"

Fritz was truly a wonderful father, husband, grandfather and friend. We will all miss him so much.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary; father, Anthony; sister, Judy; and wife, Sherry.
Fritz is survived by his brothers, Dave, Rick and Ken; sister, Cathy; son, Peter; daughter-in-law, Jill; grandson, Tyson; and many nieces and nephews.

Like Sherry, Fritz greatly appreciated the care he received at Knight Cancer Institute and St. Vincent Hospital. A memorial will be held in Fritz's honor in early February. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
