Father Frederico Ablog, 77, a religious of the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament, Province of Saint Ann, passed away on September 17 as a result of injuries sustained in a tragic automobile accident several days earlier.

Frederico Joseph Gabriel Ablog was born in Batac, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, on July 13, 1940, the beloved son of Frederico A. and Caridad Crisostomo (Gabriel) Ablog. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings and is survived by members of his extended family both in the United States and in his native Philippines.

He studied business administration at the University of the East and the Philippine College of Commerce, Manila, and danced professionally with the Bayanihan Philippine National Folk Dance Company. He later moved to New York City to pursue a career as an accountant.

His religious vocation came about as a result of a visit to the Congregation's Church of Saint Jean Baptiste in New York City. He entered the novitiate of the Congregation in August 1985, professed his first vows on August 15, 1986, and was ordained to the priesthood on May 5, 1990. He was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Community at Corpus Christi Church, Houston, Texas, for the past 18 years.

"Father Fred," as he was affectionately known, had an infectious smile and a warm personality. During his years as a religious and priest, he served as associate pastor of Saint Paschal Baylon Church, Highland Heights, Ohio, Saint Mary Church, Menasha, Wisconsin, St. Joseph in Baytown, In Houston St. Pauls, and most recently Saint Augustine Church.. He was also a member of the Catholic Chaplains Corps at the Texas Medical Center for a few years. A gifted chef, he enjoyed cooking for and entertaining a wide circle of family and friends.

Tuesday, September 26: Corpus Christi Church, 9900 Stella Link Road, Houston, Texas
Visitation: 9:00 a.m.
Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m.
Interment, Mount Olivet Cemetery, Dickinson.
