Those who are kind benefit themselves, but the cruel bring ruin on themselves. Proverbs 11:17.

Fulton "Dub" Walton Byrum, Jr. was a kind man. Dub was a loving husband, a loving father, a loving grandfather, a loving great grandfather and a loving friend. Dub, age 86, passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Cardinal Healthcare in Lincolnton, North Carolina. He was a Bluegrass musician and singer who could play a guitar the way it was supposed to be played. His group was known as Fire Creek, a group who enjoyed making music whenever they could. Dub was known as a quiet man until he got in front of the mic to sing. There, he would express his talents and bless everyone around. Being a quiet man has its advantages because Dub was slow to anger. And when he spoke, it was worth listening to what he had to say. He loved gardening his vegetables and push mowing his lawn. And for over 30 years, Dub drove a city bus for the Charlotte City Transit (CATS).

He is preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Louann Byrum who passed away in 2000; six sisters and two brothers have gone on before him as well.

He was the son of the late Fulton Walton Byrum, Sr. and Sarah Reeves Byrum.

Those left to cherish the memories of Dub are his daughter and son in law: Christy Ann and Randy McCain of Belmont, North Carolina; three sons and daughters in law: Michael and Lynn Byrum of Concord, North Carolina, Randy Byrum of Charlotte, North Carolina, Danny and Jane Ferrell of Stanley, North Carolina;

Eleven grandchildren: Robert McArn , Heather Diggs, Nathan Byrum, Mandy Byrum, Jessica Caudill, Shana Byrum, Alicia Miller, Noah Byrum, Anthony Guglielmi, Shannon Helton and Jason Ferrell; eight great grandchildren: Savannah, Delilah, Valerye, Abbi, Savi, Xander, Jansen and Caroline.

A celebration of Life will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Liberty Baptist Church, 3000 Sam Wilson Road, Charlotte, North Carolina with Pastor Dr. Gary Berry to officiate. Active pallbearers will be Nathan Byrum, Noah Byrum, Robert McArn, Jason Ferrell, Corie Faggart and Shane Diggs.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM prior to the service.

Entombment with military honors accorded by the Gaston County Honor Guard will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 2858 East NC Hwy 150, Lincolnton, North Carolina.
