FURMAN MATHESON Long Creek – Furman Simpson Matheson, 93, of 112 Charlotte Lane peacefully went to be with his Lord, Sunday, April 11, 2010 at the Cottingham House in Seneca. Born in Long Creek, he was the owner and operator of Matheson Grocery and F.S. Matheson Apple Orchards and was the last living original Apple grower of Long Creek. Furman was also a member of Long Creek Baptist Church. Surviving are daughter, by choice, Janice Matheson of Long Creek; one grandchild Kevin and wife Stephanie and two great-grandchildren Emily Matheson and John-Furman Matheson all of Westminster; brother Clyde Matheson and wife Ovelene of Westminster; sisters Beulah Parham and husband Kimsey of LaGrange GA, and Della Reid of Walhalla. Mr. Matheson was preceded in death by wife Laura Pauline "Polly" Moore Matheson; son David Furman Matheson; daughter Shirley Ann Matheson; parents Charlie and Evia Lowery Matheson; brothers Hubert, Horace, Curtis, Grady, Marvin, and Ray Matheson; and sister Ester Matheson. Funeral services will be 3PM Wednesday April 14, 2010 at the Sandifer Funeral Home Chapel in Westminster. Burial will follow in the Long Creek Memorial Gardens in Long Creek. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Tuesday April 13, 2010 at the Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made in his memory to the Cottingham Hospice House 390 Keowee School Road, Seneca SC 29672. The family is at the home of Janice Matheson, 430 Damascus Church Road, Long Creek SC.
