Garvin Elton Nelson, 83, of Midwest City, passed away November 7, 2017 in Tuttle, Oklahoma. Garvin was born on August 15, 1934 in Newsome, TX to Roy and Myrtle (Tillery) Nelson.
After graduating high school in Winnsboro TX, he enlisted the Army in 1959 and served for four years in the vehicle maintenance division. He moved to Oklahoma City in his early 20's where he met and married his wife of 56 years, Retha Cottrell. Garvin and Retha and their 4 daughters lived in Midwest City for 41 years and Blanchard for 9 years. Garvin loved watching Westerns and war movies. Not only did he love watching Westerns, he loved to read them too as Louis L'Amour was one of his favorite authors. He enjoyed collecting Hot Wheels and other toy cars. He worked for Fleming Foods for 27 years before taking a medical retirement as a maintenance technician. He enjoyed working side jobs on air conditioners and furnaces. In his free time, Garvin loved relaxing at Leisure Land on Lake Eufala and attended Calvery Holiness Church when able.
He is survived by his loving wife, Retha (Cottrell) Nelson, of Midwest City, sister, Dorothy Mallo of Oklahoma City, daughter, Marilyn Flanagan of Midwest City, daughter, Pamela Ames of Del City, daughter, Marsha Rogers and her husband Mike of Tuttle, son-in-law, Juan Rocha of Del City, grand-daughters, Tiffany Boone and husband Larry of Del City and Zettie DeMent of Del City, grand-son Clinton DeMent and wife Kaylee of Del City, great-grandchildren Ryker DeMent and Gracie DeMent of Del City, Nathan, Bradley, and Brandon Boone of Del City and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Garvin was preceded in death by his Father Roy Nelson, his mother Myrtle (Tillery) Nelson, his brother Harvey Lee Nelson and his daughter, Danna Gaylene Rocha.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday, November 13, 2017 at Sunnylane Family Church in Del City, Oklahoma. Interment will follow immediately at Sunnylane Cemetery in Del City, Oklahoma.
