Gayle Yvonne Stroup
1934 December 23rd was the day she entered the world. Her parents, Vella and Alonzo "Duck" Stroup, of Payette, ID were very happy about their family addition. They were the right parents for raising this spunky but frail young lady.

She attended Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, ID graduating in 1957. She spent a portion of her summer breaks working at Yellowstone National Park. She completed her education with a Masters degree at the University of Washington in Seattle. She taught school in the early part of her career (in Cascade, ID), and then transitioned to professional librarian, working much of her career at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, UT. She was very interested in history. God blessed her with a bright mind. She had a way of taking what the rest of the world would view as boring, and bringing it to life.

Yvonne loved to read and enjoyed good science fiction. She enjoyed watching professional NASCAR racing and.She enjoyed good chocolate. She spent time enjoying the outdoors in her own way. She would visit the mountains and spend a good deal of her off time watching birds. Yvonne enjoyed really watching the birds, not just checking species off the list. One of her favorite birding moment was watching a Magpie sneak up behind a Red-tailed Hawk and quite deliberately yank out one of its tail-feathers. She loved to tell that story.
Yvonne was such a great friend - she had so much to put up with, and just never let it interfere with her life! Through her life she had many physical trials. But through it all she kept her faith in Christ. She never let her disabilities get her down. Her sense of humor was always within reach. She sparkled in her life.
An accomplished organist, she loved the hymns of the church! She had good friends from her church family stop by the last evening of her earthly life to sing a selection of those and read devotionally from her favorite "bird-themed" devotional book.
She received her Heavenly reward on March 18, 2015 after a protracted period of illness. She wished to be cremated and her ashes will be buried at a later date in her home town
A Celebration (Memorial) Service will be conducted at SLC First Church of the Nazarene SUNDAY, March 29 @ 12:15pm. Location of Service is: SLC Holiday Inn &Suites Airport West, 5001 W Wiley Post Way, Salt Lake City, UT 84116. (Inside the Conference Rooms)
Yvonne is survived by four cousins: She is survived by the following cousins: Orland Johnson and family (Tacoma, WA), Louel Anderson and family of MT, Dick Johnson and family of TX, and Gary Johnson and family (Mitchell, SD). She also has one Braswell cousin, JennaLou Braswell (surviving spouse of late cousin Ed ) and family of Colville, WA. She leaves many friends - both former colleagues from the "U" Library; birding community friends and her church family who all cared for her deeply!
