Gemma Verdicchio Aguilar, 94, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2017.

Mrs. Aguilar was born in Caserta, Italy in 1923. She was a graduate of the University of Naples majoring in language. She taught English and French to Italian students during World War II. She served as a translator with The Allied Forces in the Royal Palace of Caserta, Italy. In 1947 she met Master Sergeant Robert Aguilar and became a war bride moving to the United States. In the 70 years she lived in the US, she became a proud and patriotic American. After coming to America, they resided in Long Branch, NJ where she had her 4 children. She enjoyed traveling the world with her family, living in Italy, England, Spain, Germany and France. While living in Virginia Beach, she continued translating for C.B.N. working on numerous books and projects in up to 4 languages.

She leaves behind her four children, David Aguilar and wife Charo, Tina Swan and husband Michael, Robert Aguilar and partner Beth Cooper, Anna Drake and husband Randy; two grandchildren Erika Aguilar and Maisie Appel, one great grand-daughter Molly Appel and many warm and wonderful friends from all over the world. She was a unique, passionate and fun loving spirit who will be missed by all she touched.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel.
