Geneva "Billie" A. Newsom passed away January 15, 2018 just short of her 88th birth date of January 27, 1930. Billie was born in Wesley, Oklahoma to John and Ada Youell. She was raised in a rural Oklahoma farming community.

After a long career at Brookside Division of Safeway in Denison, she moved to McAllen, Texas in the early 1970's. There with her husband Charles, owned and operated Valmac Electric until she retired in 1995.

Throughout her life she taught many that you can achieve whatever you put your mind to. In other words she was a bit stubborn, hence the nickname "Billie" her father gave her as a young girl. She was a hardworking, independent woman who loved learning the newest fashion trends and being a little bit fancy. Billie rose to meet whatever challenges life threw at her. She was a collector of friends and cherished those who blurred the lines of family. She was not one to miss an opportunity to travel, read a great book or have fun. She was loved deeply by her family and they will remember her for the way she taught them to preserve, delight in those close to you, never give up on a dream and to indulge in extravagance once in a while.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles Newsom and seven siblings. She is survived by son Harold Lakey of Denison, Texas; son Phil Lakey and wife Nancy of Denison, Texas; grandchildren Lara Cantrell and husband Jay of Brownfield, Texas; Jake Lakey and wife Amanda of Durango, Colorado; Susan Lakey of Dallas, Texas; Sarah Hudson and husband Jacob of Sherman, Texas along with eleven great grandchildren and one great- great grandchild. They will all miss her dearly and are thankful for her legacy.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
