Funeral services will be held at 11am Saturday in the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel for George H. Rood, Sr., 69, who died Monday evening with his family by his side at Select Specialty Hospital in Boardman. He was born December 16, 1939 in Ashtabula, the son of Henry W. and Ruth L. (Hawes) Rood. He was a 1958 graduate of Ashtabula High School. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army in which he enlisted after graduating from high school. He was the owner and president of Rood Trucking in Mineral Ridge for the past 45 years. He was a member and preaching Elder of the New Hope Christian Church in Austintown. He also owned and operated a pull truck he called “A Rood Awakening” and he enjoyed cutting grass and taking care of his yard. George was a true family man and he loved his family with all of his heart. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Diane E. Powell, whom he married August 8, 1959. He also leaves behind seven children; George (Angelia) Rood, Jr. of Austintown, Jennifer (Randy) Newell of Springfield Twp., Jeffrey (Jennifer) Rood of Austintown, Douglas Rood of Buffalo, NY, Julie (Alan) Butler of Cincinnati, James Rood of California, and Gail (Kevin) Keaney of Flowery Branch, GA; twenty-eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Sandra Guernsey, and a granddaughter Kayla. Friends may call from 6-8pm Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Elkhorn Valley Christian Service Camp in Bergholz.
