George Leonard Hoard passed away on January 22, 2018. Leonard was born in Butts County, Georgia to the late Raleigh Leonard Hoard and Susie Dean Hoard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Aunt Lorie Hoard, step-father Richard Earl Quinn and Julia Harris all of whom had a great influence over his life and contributed in their own way to the man he was to become. Leonard is survived by his wife, Nancy Harris Hoard, one daughter, Lynn Hoard (David) Dyal, a granddaughter, Lori Dyal (Nicholas) Jackson, two great grandchildren, Hunter Waltrip and Taylor Jackson, brother-in-law Joe Harris and nieces and nephews. Leonard attended school in Griffin and Jackson and graduated from Jackson High School. He was active in many sports activities and known as "Horse" to his classmates. He married his high school sweetheart and he and Nancy celebrated 61 years of marriage in December. They made their home in Stockbridge, after his service in the U.S. Navy, and lived there from 1960 until 2005. Leonard was active in Lynn's school activities as well as community activities. In addition, he was an active member of Stockbridge First United Methodist Church for 45 years, where he held many offices of leadership in the church and taught Sunday School to all ages over the years. He enjoyed working with the youth group and was mentor to many. In 2005 he and Nancy relocated to McDonough and have resided in the Pinnacle Pointe Community where he served as president of the homeowners association for 13 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 55. Leonard retired from Georgia Power Company in 1992 with 34 years of service. He retired as Atlanta Division Substation Section Supervisor due to his strong work ethic and years of dedication and was known as Bill to his co-workers. A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, January 26, 2018, two o'clock in the afternoon at McDonough First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held in the church fellowship hall from 12 - 2:00 just prior to the service with light refreshments being served.
