George Roy Ensign entered eternal rest on January 3, 2018 at the age of 88. Born in Manila, Philippines on July 10, 1929 to Leroy and Lucia Ensign; he now reunites with his parents, wife of 71 years Filipinas Ensign, siblings Carl Fields and Victorino Ochoa. He is survived by his children: Gilbert, Gregory, Georgianna (Eugene), Geraldine (Nonie), Glenn, Geneva, Galen (Betty Lynn); grandchildren: Jennie, Eileen, Dartagnan, Michelle, Kyle, Benjamin, Tamara, Thomas, Sharon, Troy; great-grandchildren: Mina Elise, Jenna Lynn, Carlie, Jacob, Xavier, Elizabeth, Colter, Maverick; and numerous other relatives. George faithfully served in the United States Air Force for over 27 years as an electrician (lineman). George was a great leader and well respected for his service and leadership. He had a natural respectable demeanor and was always welcoming others into his home. George was intelligent in many languages and spoke over 8 languages. He used his skills as an interpreter for some time, but his proudest language was learning Japanese fluently. At home George was quite the family man with a great sense of humor and stern disciplinarian. He was a role model and ensured his family had a great quality of life, from the little things to vacations, his family always came first. When he was younger he enjoyed playing the organ, riding horses, and riding motorcycles. He was genuinely a great man to know, a wonderful husband, and amazing father and grandfather who will be missed dearly. The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Services will continue on Friday, January 26, 2018 with a 9:30 Mass of Resurrection at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. in shelter 1. Please visit the online guest book for condolences and shared memories.
