Gerald Carl Roche, 91, of Sun City Center, FL husband of the late Ann (McCloskey) Roche of Windsor Locks, died peacefully after a week of tender love and care by his family and care givers, on Friday (January 2, 2009) at Homewood Residence. Born on September 11, 1917 in Hartford, CT, he was the son of the late Jeremiah and Anna (Langhans) Roche and was predeceased by an infant sister, May Ruth. Gerry lived in the greater Hartford area, including 44 years in Windsor (St. Gabriel Parish), before moving to Freedom Plaza, Sun City Center, FL in December of 1996. He attended Our Lady of Sorrows and Hartford Public Schools. Gerry was a graduate of William Hall High School, West Hartford, Class of 1936. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, reaching the rank of Staff Sgt., as a Tank Commander in the 12th Armored Division, 714 th Tank Battalion. He was a former employee of The Hartford Market, Retail Credit, Fuller Brush, Goodyear Tire & Rubber and Swift companies and retired from the Reynolds Metals Company after 30 years of service as a sales representative, a role in which he reveled to the end. He proudly enjoyed the privileges of both American and Irish citizenship. Gerry leaves a daughter, Patricia Derba and her husband Joseph of Wesley Chapel, FL, a son, David and his wife Carol of Palmer Lake, CO, two grandchildren, Brigid of Centennial, CO & Brendan of Durango, CO, several sisters- and a brother-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.
