Geraldine Ann (Harjes) Politz, 80, passed away after a long illness at home with her beloved husband by her side on April 9, 2017. Gerry was born on November 14, 1936 in Hamburg, MN. She was a Midwest farm girl. She studied at the University of Minnesota in 1954. While she loved her family in the Midwest, she had dreams of the big city. In 1958, Gerry and two childhood friends, moved to San Francisco. That year she met the love of her life, Joseph Politz. They were married on Valentine's Day in 1959. In 1963 she became a mother and became a stay at home mom. She was very involved at St. Monica's School becoming the president of the Mother's club. She also enjoyed astrology, and being with friends and family.
In 1981, the family moved from San Francisco to Novato. In this home, they raised their boys, enjoyed their friends, family and watched her grandchildren grow up. Gerry loved people, she was always entertaining. She loved a full house, whether it was their friends or the boys' friends - she wanted to get to know you. She was a careful listener. She never forgot a birthday or anniversary. Often she would send a card or make a call to let you know she was thinking about you. Joe used to say, she should own stock in Hallmark Cards and wear a Yellow Cab Hat. She so enjoyed regular lunches at Marin Country Club with the Girls, countless pool parties and poker games. Her favorite times were those with her sons, and their families; her grandchildren were her pride and joy. When they were young she enjoyed going to watch soccer games, little league games theater and band performances.
Joe and Gerry were married for 57 years; they both loved each other very much! They shared their love of travel, going on many fabulous trips, including Tahiti, Europe, Hong Kong, and Yosemite with the Porsche Club. They also drove cross country to see Gerry's family in Minnesota when the boys were younger.
Gerry is preceded in death by her parents, John and Gertrude Harjes; her sister, Marilyn Harjes Selchow and her niece, Kathleen Selchow. She is survived by her husband, Joseph, who cared for her selflessly during her recent years of illness. Also by her sons, Michael, and wife, Karen of San Francisco, and their son, Kyle. Jeffrey and wife, Ellen of Napa and their children: Nicholas, Anthony and Victoria.
Services will be held at Keaton's Mortuary in Novato on Saturday, April 22nd: Visitation and Viewing at 10:30 am, Funeral Service at 11 am, followed by a luncheon at Marin Country Club. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory can be made to Hospice of Marin (17 E Sir Francis Drake Blvd, Larkspur, CA 94939).
