Services for Geraldine (Burris) Renken, 80, of Lufkin, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, November 20, 2016 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Brian Williams and Bro. Blake Powers officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitehouse Cemetery.
Mrs. Renken was born May 15, 1936 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Jessie Doyle Burris and Evelyn (Worthy) Gibson, and had resided in the Lufkin area her entire lifetime. She passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at her residence.
Geraldine dearly loved her family and friends. Her main talent was playing the piano for friends, civic clubs, schools, and at Salem Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member. Traveling and cruises were her main enjoyment. She was a 32-year member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (D.R.T.). Mrs. Renken retired from the City of Lufkin and Friends of Ellen Trout Zoo. She graduated from Lufkin High School in 1954 and served as Class Reunion Coordinator.
Survivors include her beloved husband, Julian (Jay) Renken; daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Robert Powers of Huntington, Lesha and Bill Jones of Corpus Christi, and K. Angela and Jason VanSchoubroek of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Paula Korn of Huntington; grandchildren, Stephanie Valentine, Blake Powers, Clay Martin, Hannah Martin, Jessica Senn, Cassidy Miller, Grace Anne Korn, Morgan Crawford, and Hunter VanSchoubroek; stepchildren, Barbara Corley, Jenny Michael and Wes Renken; 6 step-grandchildren; sister, Janece (Jan) Lankford-Jones; and brother, Jerry D. Burris.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Renken was preceded in death by her sister, JoAnn Adams of Guymon, Oklahoma; and son-in-law, Russell (Rusty) Martin of Lufkin.
Pallbearers will be Blake Powers, Colt Valentine, Josh Senn, Blaze Miller, Clay Crawford, Clay Martin and Hunter VanSchoubroek.
Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Arnold, Elmer Sanders, Kenneth Baker, Walter McLendon, Dwayne Burris and Jimmy Lee.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
