Gilford L. "Gil" Johnson, 92, of Brookville, OH passed away Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Brookhaven Retirement Community following an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and his first wife, Hillis. He was a US Army veteran of WWII, serving 33 months in the South Pacific. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He retired after 40 years with International Harvester UAW in Ft. Wayne. He was a member of Sherman Street Church of God, and was a lifetime member of both the VFW & DAV. Gil is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Slyder) Johnson, sons, Randal (Shirley) Johnson of Wichita, KS and Richard Johnson of Tell City, IN; sister, Marge Keintz; step-daughters, Ruth Bradley and Kathryn George; two devoted step-grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. During their retirement years, Gil & Dorothy enjoyed traveling by RV, cruising and their winters in Florida. Local services include visitation from 10 AM to 12 PM Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home For Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46809. Burial with military honors will be at Prairie Grove Cemetery.
