Gladys E. Brown, nee Ely of Ballston Lake, NY, Age 92, March 10, 2015. She was born on January 6, 1923 in Baldwin, NY. Daughter of Albert J Ely and Charlotte M. (Beuermann) Ely. The Family moved to Babylon in 1926. She attended Babylon schools and graduated from Babylon High School in 1940. She went to Long Island College School of Nursing and received an Associates Degree from Wesley College in Dover, DE. She was also a Medical Assistant, certified in both Clinical and Administrative. She was a Registered Nurse working in Pediatrics for Apria Healthcare, of Albany where she was awarded Nursing Caregiver of the year, and the Community Hospice of Albany, NY. She earned a Cerificate of Interior Design from New York Institute of Interior Design in New York City. On August 11, 1946 she married Dr. Marshall W. Brown who practiced medicine and surgery in Babylon, NY. for thirty years who predeceased her in 1960. She was also predeceased by Norman C. Raynor in 1980, after a ten year marriage. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church of Babylon, where she strarted as a member of the cradle roll at three years of age, until she left the area in 1975, and now a present member of the Jonesville Methodist Church of Jonesville, NY. In her younger years, she enjoyed sailing on the Great South Bay with lifelong childhood friend, now deceased, and in later years built two model sailboats. She was a lifelong writer of short stories and novels and enjoyed music and the crafting of words. She is the authur of two books of poetry and has had poems published in several Anthologies of poetry. Her survivors include her two children, Robert D. Brown (Maryann) of Brentwood, NY.; Marsha S. Brown and one grandchild Douglas W. Palmer of Ct.,one sister, Alice E. Haff, of Babylon, NY and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a step-daughter, Betty B. Brown of Watertown, NY and four sisters. Family and Friends may visit, Thursday , 2:00-4:30pm and 7:00-9:30pm at Claude R. Boyd-Spencer Funeral Homes, 448 West Main Street, Babylon Village, NY. Funeral Service Friday, 10:00am, at The United Methodist Church of Babylon. Interment following at Pinelawn Memorial Park, Farmingdale.
