Gladys Lee Alvis Wallin, 97, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2017. She was born in Richmond, Virginia and was a resident of Hampton for 66 years. Gladys was an accounting technician for Langley AFB and retired in 1976 after 26 years of service. Upon retirement from LAFB, she managed the books for Shorty Wallin Lock and Security and trained the next generation to continue their legacy. When she retired from the lock shop, she spent her remaining years doing what she loved best, taking care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of Restoration Church. Having a big heart for children and a desire to serve others, she taught Sunday school, children's church and Bible school for over 50 years. She had a card ministry that touched the lives of countless individuals and was a lifelong prayer warrior.

Gladys was preceded in rest by her husband of 51 years, James Wallin, Jr.; son, James Paul Wallin; granddaughter, Sarah Renee Wallin; brother, John C. Alvis, Jr.; and sisters, Frances W. Alvis Shepherd Wilmore and Annette L. Alvis. She is survived by her sons, Robert L. Wallin, Johnnie G. Wallin, and Richard Wallin; 8 grandchildren, Kelley R. Canaday, Michael D. Wallin, Maria S. Martell, Seth P. Wallin, Stephanie L. Wallin, Nathan D. Wallin, Stacey A. Wallin, and Steven C. Wallin; 12 great-grandchildren, Leah L. Canaday, Jeffrey D. Canaday, Jr., Jessica R. Canaday, Devon L. Campbell, Alexis M. Myers, Audrey E. Wallin, Tobbie W. Myers, Nathan D. Wallin, Andrew J. Wallin, Ryder G. Martell, Macy R. McLean, and Sarah E. Wallin; and great-great-grandchild, Aurelia Jayne Maccubbin.

The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Friday, November 17, 2017 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Gladys' life will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 18, at Restoration Church, 508 Fox Hill Road, Hampton, Virginia, officiated by Rev. Richard Wallin and Thom Schutt. Interment will follow at Hampton-Veterans Memorial Gardens.
