Gloria Raynes Luth Obituary

Uncasville - Gloria Raynes Luth, 87, of Uncasville, joined her husband, Janus Stanley Luth, over the rainbow bridge on June 27, 2017, at Backus Hospital, after suffering a stroke on June 20, 2017.

Gloria was also predeceased by her parents, Everett J. and Hazel (Passmore) Raynes; siblings, Everett, Myrton, Lawrence and Florence; sister-in-law, Shirley Raynes; and brother-in-law, Wesley Lawley.

Gloria grew up in Chestnut Hill, Mass. and graduated from Brookline High School and Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School. Early in her career she worked for Massachusetts Electric and Massachusetts General Hospital. After marrying Janus and living in Florida for a couple of years they moved to Connecticut in the early 1960's. She retired from the medical records department at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.

Gloria is survived by her only daughter, Heidi Schluntz and her husband, Louis, of Hebron; three granddaughters, Melissa and Amanda Hutchins-Westerlind and their son, Ezra Hutchins-Westerlind, of Worcester, Mass., April Hutchins and her son, Cole Bliven-Klemba, of Cromwell, and Raven "Pam" and Christopher Hyllested and their son, arriving in September 2017, Grayson Hyllested, of Plainfield. Gloria is also survived by her sister, Beverley Lawley, of Woodstock, Ala.; her goddaughter, Wendy Floyd and her husband, Donald, of Richmond, Va.; and her sister-in-law, Carrie Raynes of Milton, N.H.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins all around the globe.

Gloria was a longtime member of Christ Episcopal Church of Norwich, and an avid camper of National Camping Travelers (NCT). She went to a TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) every Tuesday night! Gloria enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and reading throughout her life. She also traveled with her husband to many locations and would often take the granddaughters on many trips across the country. Gloria enjoyed swimming, going to the beach, cross- country skiing, ice skating and bocce ball in her younger years.

A celebration of Gloria's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. July 29, 2017, at Christ Episcopal Church, 78 Washington St., Norwich, with a reception to follow on the church grounds. Gloria will be buried next to her husband and in-laws in Newport, R.I. at the convenience of the family. Church and Allen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
