Gloria Sundblad, 95, left this world peacefully at 8:36pm Friday, July 5, 2019 at Addolorata Villa in Wheeling, IL, where she had been a resident since June of 2018.

She was born to Armando and Maria (Massoni) Guastapaglia on March 17, 1924 in Guamo, Italy. At the age of three her family immigrated to the United States settling on the north shore of Chicago where Gloria graduated from New Trier East High School in 1941.

Gloria began her work life at Sentinel Radio where she met the love of her life, Robert "Bill" Sundblad whom she married in Gainsville, Texas on April 17, 1948. Following Bill's minor league baseball career, which took them to both Texas and Minnesota, they returned to the north shore settling in Evanston where they raised their three daughters.

Being one of the few working women/mothers of this era Gloria worked at The Evanston Day Nursery as well as General Finance Corporation from which she retired after 17 years. The independent nature evident in her desire to work outside the home proved to be beneficial when in December, 1971 she suddenly found herself widowed at the age of 47. Left alone to raise three teenagers, there was nothing to do but put one foot in front of the other, rely on her faith and carry on…. which Gloria did with grace, devotion and a female determination well before feminism became fashionable. It is this role modeled strength, perseverance and resilience that is her legacy and that lives on in her family.

Gloria is survived by her daughters Kathy (Jeff) Estabrooke, Debra (Glenn Cannon) Sundblad and Diane Bittle, her grandchildren Clay (Lindsay) and Bailey Estabrooke, Logan (Brianne) and Megan Bittle, James (Megan) Cannon and Alicia (Jon) Cannon-Creuziger and her great grandchildren Kamdyn (Megan), Carter (Logan and Brianne) Abigail and Declan (James and Megan) Katlin, Logan, Ethan and Gavin (Alicia) and an additional great granddaughter expected this coming October (Clay and Lindsay).

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her only sibling Betty Loebbaka.

A private burial will occur at All Saints Cemetery on August 2, 2019 with a Celebration of Life at the Addolorata Villa Chapel, 555 McHenry Road, Wheeling, Illinois at 11am on August 3, 2019. Friends are welcome to greet the family at the chapel beginning at 9am the day of the service.

Donations may be made in Gloria's honor to: The Coffin-Lowry Syndrome Foundation, Special Gifts Theater INC. of Northbrook, Illinois or Addolorata Villa Gift of Care.
