Gregory Leon Lopez, 94, of Granite City, Illinois, born, March 12, 1923 in Fairmont, Illinois passed away and entered his heavenly home on December 10, 2017 in Glen Carbon, Illinois.

Gregory also known as "Greg" to family and friends possessed a dedicated and charismatic personality. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, serving during World War II and, the Battle of the Battle of the Bulge which was the last major German offensive campaign on the western front during World War II. He worked as an electrical engineer building explosives and weapons in places across the world such as Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He had the honor and humbling experience of participating in Honor Flight, where he was flown to Washington D.C. along with other servicemen and paid the highest respect and honor for his diligence and fight for our country.

Greg married the love of his life, Barbara Lou Metz and to this union brought three daughters. He retired from the postal service in 1984, after 33 years of working as a postal service clerk. He started off in East St Louis but retired in Cahokia Illinois. He was very family orientated, compassionate and driven. He loved reading, history, ancestry and visiting museums. He will always be remembered for his wittiness, his intelligence and his captivating personality. He was a loving Dad, grandpa, great grandpa and friend. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 50 years, Barbara Lopez; his parents, Concepcion Lopez and Maria I. (Alvarado) Lopez and his siblings; Della Lopez, Francis Lopez, Evelyn Lopez Gilbreth, Valentine Lopez and Frank Lopez.

Surviving are his loving children; Inez A. Bixler, of Granite City, Illinois, Delia (Michael) Roth, of O'Fallon, MO and Alicia J. Berrios, of Granite City, Illinois; his grandchildren, Gregory (Heather) Bixler and Shannon Bixler; his great grandchildren, Skylar, Braden and Jake; his great-great grandchild, Ava; his sister, Victoria Arambula, of Los Angeles, California and a number of dear relatives and friends.

Visitation: Family and friends may visit from 11:00am until 1:00pm, on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Lake View Funeral Home, 5000 N Illinois Street, Fairview Heights, Illinois.

Funeral Service: All services will be held immediately following visitation at 1:00pm, Wednesday, December 13, 2017.
