Gregory Neil Fish, 68, of Aumsville, Oregon (previously of Keizer, OR), passed away Monday, December 18, at his home with wife and daughters at his side.
Greg was born in Salem, OR., on October 29th, 1949, graduated from South Salem High School, attended Cascade College (majoring in Biblical Studies) and Portland State University.
Greg married his wife Kathy April 24th, 1976, and celebrated their 41st anniversary. He has two daughters who adored him tremendously, Heidi Swearingen, Albany, OR. and Julia Cornett, Jonesborough, TN. He also had grandson Canon Swearingen and step-grandson Jordan Swearingen. He was loved by his sons-in-law Gerald Swearingen and Kenny Cornett. In addition to wife Kathy, daughters and families, other survivors are sister Anita Lundy, Vancouver, WA., brother Curt Fish, Stayton, OR., parents-in-law Carl and Mary Beach, Keizer, and step-father Ralph Dungey, Keizer.
Greg served in Naval Intelligence during the Vietnam War and worked in the forestry service and the Oregon State Police. He built homes and owned Ryerson Hardwood Floors, Portland, for 35 years. After retirement, he drove school buses for Salem-Keizer Schools. His last job, which he really enjoyed, was as a medical transport driver for Willamette Valley Transport until his cancer diagnosis.
Greg was a devoted, hardworking, and loving husband, father, brother and son. He was a wonderful Christian man who walked very closely with Jesus his whole life. Many friends and family considered him to be one of the kindest, most generous men they had ever met. He was an active member of Salem First Church of the Nazarene and had been member/chaplain of the Christian Motorcycle Association. He loved to fly his Taylor Craft airplane as well as ride his motorcycle on a sunny day. He loved to go fishing and boating with friends and family and take his daughters camping.
Greg's mother and father, Dorothy Fish-Dungey and Bud Fish, are now celebrating with him in heaven.
The Celebration of Life service for Greg will be held Wednesday December 27, 11:00 AM, at Salem First Church of the Nazarene, 1550 Market St NE, Salem, OR 97301. For the family, condolences of cards or flowers may be sent to the church. Memorial donations may be sent to the church for world missions.
