Guido John Scotto

1924 - 2017

As he would have it Guido was taken home to Heaven passing peacefully in the loving arms of his daughter Gayle. Born January 30, 1924, was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, his immigrant parents Salvatore and Amelia, brothers Michael, Vincent, Hugo, sister Rose Mary and grandson Devin Scotto.

Guido was born in Novato later moved with family to San Rafael.

At the age of 19 he enlisted in Army Air Corp, became Sergeant and served mostly in Guam during World War II. In 1946 after he was honorably discharged and returned home, the quiet Guido fell in love and married the vivacious Barbara Kahler, lived in San Rafael and raised 2 children Gary Scotto (Sharon) and Gayle deRutte (Stanley).

Crushed by the loss of their amazing Papa are Guido's grandchildren: Nathan deRutte (Cortney), Branden Scotto, Lisa McLea (Darren), David deRutte (Danielle), Michael deRutte (Lorraine) and Robert deRutte. And great-grandchildren: Darren, Roman, Nicholas, Jack, Bryce, Marie and Luke.

Guido was a General Contractor in Marin for many years, then took a job as a Carpenter for the Federal Government at the Presidio in San Francisco. It wasn't long before he was promoted to Foreman, then Superintendent, and eventually to Branch Chief in charge of all maintenance and construction.

Guido was a dedicated and active member of the Native Sons of the Golden West for 68 years.

For the last 12 years Guido lived at Vineyard Commons in Santa Rosa, where he was extremely well liked and will be sorely missed by his fellow residents.

Guido was blessed for the last 8 years to have the assistance of his caregiver and dear friend, Wayne Lobendaum.
