Guy Henry Prater, eighty-seven, died peacefully on November 12th, 2017 in Mesquite, Texas. Guy was born on October 21st, 1930 in San Angelo, Texas, the son of Guy Crutcher Prater and Pauline Louisa Turn.

Guy learned at an early age that he had a creative side. He played clarinet in high school, and was a member of the Bobcat Band in San Angelo. He loved photography from an early age which developed into all forms of art. At seventeen, he joined the US Navy, and participated in the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge, he went to nursing school where he met Dorothy Hashem at the Seton Hospital in 1953. They married in 1956. Soon after, they moved to Dallas. They were members of St. Pius X church for over fifty years.

He worked at Baylor University Medical Center, where he managed the research lab for Baylor as well as one of the lead perfusionist when the role was being established across the country. He had the good fortune of working with Dr. Harold Urschel and other well know surgeons in the Dallas area. He became a highly active member of AmSECT.

He will be mostly remembered for his love of his family and friends, which he had many, and for his high degree of artistic ability. He saw things that most of us wish we could. Guy is survived by his children Michael and Diane, grandchildren John Paul, Kristen, Adam, Samantha, Kevin, Joshua and Rylee, and great-grandchild Simon; many nieces and nephews, a number of other relatives and close friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy and his son John.

The viewing and rosary will be 6pm – 8pm on Thursday, 11/16. The funeral will be at St. Pius X Church in Dallas at 11am on 11/17. The burial with military honors will be in Rowlett following the service.
