Harold B. Coe, age 97, of Buckley passed away Sunday, November 29, 2015 at Pinecrest Village in Mackinaw City. He was born November 24, 1918 in Detroit to Harry Benson and Minnie Elizabeth (James) Coe. He married the late Gladys Eleanor Gersky on Aug. 30, 1942 in Detroit. Together they raised four children.
Harold graduated from Southeastern High School in Detroit. After high school, Harold attended GM trade school where he learned Tool and Die. Harold enlisted in the US Navy in 1943 and served as a Seabee in the 78th battalion during WWII. After his honorable discharge in 1945, Harold went to work for Schwartz-Boring in Detroit, from where he retired in 1983.
Harold was a member of the Foresters, Civil Defense, and the Fife Lake AmVets Post 219. He also was Treasurer for the property owners for Lake Gitchegumee. In his spare time, Harold loved the casino and playing Bingo.
Harold will be greatly missed by his children: Ruth Ann (Robert Blake) Kauffman of Kimball Twp., Michelle (Jerome) Davis of Kimball Twp., Alan (Jeanette) Coe of Warren, and Cynthia (Craig) Koehn of Macomb Twp.; 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren, and long-time companion Margaret Kelly of Buckley.
Besides his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his wife Gladys in 1999, and a granddaughter Diane Blake in 1998.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, December 2, 2015 from 4-8 p.m. at the Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City with a scripture service at 7:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be held Thursday, December 3, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Hannah Catholic Church in Kingsley, with visitation one hour prior. Harold will be laid to rest Friday, December 4, 2015 with a service to be held at 1p.m. at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East in Clinton Township, with military honors.
Memorial contributions in Harold's name may be directed to Munson Hospice.
