HARROLD CHAPPELL "HUM" VANREENEN, age 69 years, a resident of Alpena, WV departed this life early Thursday morning, December 13, 2012 at the Davis Memorial Hospital Emergency Department. He had been in declining health although death was unexpected.
He was born Sunday, March 28, 1943 at Hillsboro, WV a son of the late Arnold Lee VanReenen and Thresea Marie Chappell VanReenen Doyle. On April 26, 1997 at Elkins, WV he was married to the former Amelia Louise "Amy" Cunningham, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Harold Brien VanReenen, Ft. Riley, KS; Matthew Channing VanReenen, Marlinton; three daughters, Pamela Sue VanReenen and Ben, Havre De Grace, MD; Tonia Lynn Brookman and Tom, Jellico, TN; Regina G. Cutlip and Terry, Marlinton; one brother, James Stanley VanReenen, Buckeye; one sister, Mary Kathleen Biller and Randall, Elkins; four grandchildren, Christina; Shannon; and Hali Brookman, all of Jellico, TN; Jennifer Buzzard and Justin, Dunmore; one great granddaughter, Clair Marie Buzzard, Dunmore and his cats, Billy; Magnum; and Marilyn Monroe.
Preceding him in death is one brother, William Lee VanReenen.
He was a graduate of Marlinton High School with the Class of 1963 and was a Truck Driver for Burns Motor Freight for thirty-six years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Randolph County Senior Center, and the National Truck Drivers Association, where he enjoyed the truck rodeos being the State Champion in 1985 and 1989 and received numerous other awards. He won the Million Mile MACK award and was driver of the month at Burns Motor Freight on many occasions. He attended the Marlinton Church of the Nazarene.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 PM, Saturday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel, Sunday, December 16, 2012 at 1:30 PM. The Rev. Terry A. Burgess will officiate and interment will follow at the Alpena Cemetery at Alpena, WV.
