Harry "Opa" Verkuyl

Harry passed away at Marshall Hospital in Placerville, at the age of 90, after a short illness on January 27, 2017. Harry leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years, Miep. Beloved father of Tonny (Lorie) Verkuyl, Annette (Mark) Young, Kathy (Eddie) Sota, and Harry Verkuyl. He was lovingly called Opa by his grandchildren Brieanna, Aidan, Matthew, Michael, Hailey, Alyssa, Christopher, Grace, Katherine, Becca, and Bobby.

Born in The Netherlands on January 4, 1927, Harry worked and lived in Canada and Arizona before moving to California. After living in Long Beach, CA for over 40 years, while working for Shell Oil Company as a pipe fitter for 28 of those years, he and Miep moved to Diamond Springs in 2003. Harry was a devoted member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Placerville where he was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, a member of the choir, and involved with the Legion of Mary. Harry was also a volunteer with the El Dorado County Food Bank. He was an avid soccer fan and fisherman, but above all loved his family. They are going to miss his dry sense of humor and mischievous smile.

An 11:00 Memorial Mass will be preceded by the Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 3109 Sacramento St., Placerville, CA 95667 followed by a reception at the church. Private inurnment will be at St. Patrick Cemetery in Placerville. Donations in Harry's name may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church.
