Dr. Harvey A. Whipple, Jr., D.D.S., 88, of Brewster, MA, formerly of Warren, Rhode Island, passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, joyfully reuniting with his loving wife, Lesa (McNulty) Whipple, who predeceased him.

Harvey A. Whipple, Jr., D.D.S., was born in Providence, RI, the third child of Harvey and Marion (Raybold) Whipple on July 5, 1928, in his words, "at the tail end of the affluent and carefree days of the Great Jazz Age, and fifteen months before the collapse of Wall Street." He spent his youth growing up on Friendly Road in Cranston, Rhode Island with his two brothers, Richard and Kingsley, and his sister, Shirley, along with lifelong friends, Fred Roberts and Richard "Spin" Spinney. The family did not feel the worst of the depression, but they made sacrifices as necessary and enjoyed living in the Friendly Community. After graduating from Cranston High School, Harvey attended Brown University for a year before enlisting on July 15, 1946 in the U.S Army (having attempted to enlist in the Navy at the age of 15!). On the bus to Fort Banks to be sworn in, he met Joe Ryan from Fall River, who became another lifelong friend. World War II occupation saw him stationed in a hospital as a surgical technician in Vienna before being discharged in 1948, having received the Army Occupational Medal and the WW II Victory Medal. After many odd jobs and just before returning to college, he was recalled into the US Army and reported to duty on September 20, 1950. This time he was stationed in Korea as a scout with the 7th Regimental Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division. He participated in the USMC evacuation from Hungnam North Korea. He was discharged in 1951 having been awarded the Korean Service Medal with the Bronze Service Star and the Combat Infantry Badge. After a 'blind date' in 1952 and a few years of dating, Harvey married the love of his life, Lesa McNulty in 1955 and began their, what was to be, large family of four girls and five boys. Education was important to Harvey. He attended Tufts and graduated from Temple Dental School in 1957, becoming a well-loved family dentist in Warren, Rhode Island. Working at Denby Associates he was gentle and kind and known to whistle a tune as he walked the hall between patients. Harvey and Lesa raised their nine children in Touisset in Warren, where they had many friends and the family enjoyed singing at the Touisset Point Community Club, annual August family camping trips, snowy winters and warm summers. Harvey's love for music prompted many evenings to include a sing-along while he played the guitar or piano. Harvey and Lesa spent over 30 years in Warren before moving to Brewster, Cape Cod, Massachusetts when Harvey retired in 1982. In 1984 he began teaching in the Cape Cod Community College School of Dental Hygiene program enjoying training new hygienists for many years. Harvey and Lesa shared a love for each other and their family for 38 years. After her untimely death, Harvey continued to enjoy his family, traveling to see his children and grandchildren, painting, wood working, walking the beaches of Cape Cod, sailing the waters off Cape Cod, gardening and bird watching at his home in Brewster. Harvey had a discerning heart, the gifts of wisdom and patience, a strong sense of humor and a deep sense of family. He was a source of strength and encouragement to us all. He loved and he was loved.

Harvey is predeceased by his loving son Harvey A. Whipple, III, and leaves his remaining devoted children, Lesa Nicholson of Brewster, MA and her fiancé, Jim Guzzo, Sharon M. Andres and her husband Gary of Hadley, MA, COL David B. Whipple, USAF (ret) of S. Dennis, MA, Kevin K. Whipple and his wife Deanna of Branson, MO, Leslie M. McCarthy and her husband Daniel of Dennisport, MA, Dorian V. Robinson and her husband William of Brewster, MA, Andrew R. Whipple, BSCD of Brewster, MA and Tucson, AZ, Nathan W.
