Helen Catherine Fagan, a Prineville resident passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2011. She was 88 years old.

A vigil service will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 7:00p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. A Mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 4, 2011 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Prineville at 11:00 a.m. with procession to Juniper Haven Cemetery for a Graveside Service. Father Robert Greiner will officiate.

Helen was born on April 26, 1923 in Omaha, Nebraska to Charles & Margaret (Connors) Collins. The family moved from Omaha to Los Angeles when she was a teenager in 1940. She helped raise her younger siblings after her mother passed away.

Helen married John Morgan Fagan in Los Angeles, California on February 1, 1943. They moved to Eugene, Oregon in 1950. In 1954 they moved to Prineville, Oregon.

She was an active member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Prineville.

Her love of children led her to teach Catechism at St. Joseph's to K-First grade for 26 ½ years. She was a Eucharistic Minister, served on Parish Council, held offices of President and Vice President of the Altar Society and volunteered in the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry for many years. In 1980 she received a gold medal from Pope John Paul for her service to the church.

Helen volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America, Blue Birds and 4-H. For nine years she worked with the residents of Crook County Nursing Home where she taught crafts. She served meals at the Senior Center for 11 years. Helen also collected for the March of Dimes, Leukemia Society and worked for the Census Bureau.

Helen was proud of her family and enjoyed homemaking, entertaining, reading everything she could, sewing, playing cards & pinochle and growing flowers. Through the years she took classes in ceramics, tole painting and stained glass. Helen also enjoyed family activities such as camping, fishing, archery, and attending art shows in the park with her husband John.

Helen is survived by her son; John & his wife Jo Reese of Portland, Oregon, daughters; Linda & her husband Donald Schulte of Spokane, Washington, Cathy & her husband Clayton Baxter and Maureen Fagan all of Prineville,
One brother; Thomas Collins of Duarte, California, seven grandchildren; Traci Kershaw (Sean) of Plantation, Florida, Matthew Schulte (Katie) of Madison, Wisconsin, Clayton Baxter (Cynthia) of Everett, Washington, Tiffany Luther (Brian) of Prineville, Ashley Groves (Dustin Hammond) of Redmond, Brooke Murray (Blake), and John Groves of Prineville, and 13 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John (Feb 28, 2011- Prineville), two brothers, and four sisters.
