Helen Marie Yakum, 81, of Elm Street, Lenox Dale, died Sunday at Laurel Lake Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Lee. Born in Springfield, MA February 8, 1932, the daughter of Charles and Anna Curto Fumo, she was a 1949 graduate of Cathedral High School. Mrs. Yakum was employed at Forbes and Wallace and later Springfield Fire and Marine Insurance Co. She and her husband, George Yakum, were married in Mount Carmel Church in Springfield June 24, 1950 and moved to the Berkshires in 1962. Mrs. Yakum was a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Lenox Dale for many years. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, cross word puzzles, and going to tag sales. For many years she was a flea market dealer in New Lebanon, NY. Besides her husband of Lenox Dale she is survived by her children David A. Yakum and his wife Cathie of Des Moines, Iowa and Barbara A. Yakum of Houston, TX; 2 grandchildren, Andrea Marie Tapps and husband Kyle, and David A. Yakum, Jr. and his wife Lee Ann; great-grandchildren Damien Yakum and Isabella Tapps; and her brother William Fumo and wife Elaine of Newport, RI. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her granddaughter Erin Lee Johnson and her brother Vinnie Fumo. A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mrs. Helen M. Yakum of Lenox Dale was celebrated Saturday, October 19th, 2013 at St. Ann's Church in Lenox by the Rev. Christopher J. Waitekus, Pastor. Burial followed in St. Ann's Cemetery. There were no calling hours. In lieu of flowers donations in Mrs. Yakum's memory may be made to the Make A Wish Foundation in care of the ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, 120 Main Street, Lenox, MA 01240
