CHAI, Henry Winshing, 82 of Tampa, passed away June 16, 2017. He is survived by his two brothers, sister-in-law, 7 nephews and nieces and 2 sons. Henry was born in Nanjing, China and emigrated to the United States from Taiwan with his parents Dr. and Mrs. Chu Chai in 1955.

He attended high school in NYC, studied at Manchester College and completed his graduate work in mathematics at Courant Institute of NYC. In the early years during the Viet Nam War era, he worked as an engineer for the US Anti-Missile Defense System. Later he taught mathematics at Virginia State University and Stevens Institute of Technology. He also co-founded Marcinko Data Systems and Software Systems Technology, Inc. and became Executive Director of Systems Information Institute. Henry co-authored several books including a very widely used textbook named Programming---Standard Cobol, and most recently an e-book entitled Social Computing. Henry also chaired the committee focused on remote passbook processing for Citicorp which eventually led to today’s ATM cash machines, and credit card processing. Henry will be buried in Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, NY in the family plot. A memorial service will be held in New York. Henry will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and great sense of humor.
