Herbert Morse Altman, 79, of Springfield and Clearwater, Florida, passed away on Sunday July 9, 2017 at his residence. He was born on June 26, 1938 in Lincoln to Frederick Eugene and Mary Ellen Greenslate Altman. Herbert married Dr. Erika Nina Bausch on July 7, 1962 in Lincoln and she survives.
Mr. Altman is survived by two brothers: James Henry Altman of Arnold, MO. and Fred (Sharon) Altman of Pekin, and one sister Joyce of Lincoln. He was preceded in death by one sister Mary Sue Altman.

Herbert was educated in Lincoln, Illinois public schools and then attended Eureka College before enlisting in the Marine Corp. When he returned to civilian life Herbert began a career in agriculture with Standard Oil of Ohio. During his career with Sohio he served in many capacities including managing a retail fertilizer plant in Ashton, Illinois before moving to DeLand, Illinois and serving as a district manager prior to moving to Lima, Ohio where he was the Manager of Training and served as the Advertising Manager as well. Herb then moved to Cleveland, Ohio where he was the Merchandising Manager as well as the Advertising and Training Manager.

Herbert and his wife Erika moved to Springfield on January 1, 1986 when he joined Brandt Consolidated as the General Manager of Claw El, now known as Specialty Products. One achievement he was very proud of was moving Brandt out of the corn and bean market in Illinois and acquiring products which fit the fruit, vegetable, and ornamental markets worldwide.

Herb and Erika enjoyed traveling and making many friends and business associates. He enjoyed hunting, golf.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30am on Friday July 14, 2017 at Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 Koke Mill Road, with burial to follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 10:00am until the time of service Friday at Bisch West.
