Herbert "Pete" Pentoney Yost, 88, a resident of Sunnyside Retirement Community went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, September 25, 2017.

He was born on April 25, 1929 in Morgan County, WV and was the son of the late Peter C. and Nettie E. Pentoney Yost.

Pete graduated from West Virginia University, Class of 1951, George Washington University and he furthered his studies at University of Virginia. He was Athletic Director for 20 years at George Marshall High School in Fairfax County; he also was a teacher and coach at Berkley Springs, WV, Osborne High School in Prince William County Public Schools and McLean High School in Fairfax County Public Schools. He retired in 1984 and moved to Harrisonburg in 1988. Pete was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and choir member for 29 years, of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Shenandoah Choral Society, Virginia High School League, Athletic Director Association, Friends of Massanetta, WRE Board, and teacher and member at B F Wilson Sunday school class. Pete was an original member of the Thursday Men's Bible Study "The Bagel Boys" at First Presbyterian Church.

In 1947 he met his future wife at Massanetta Springs; this place is near and dear to their heart. On July 1, 1950 he married, Betty Bayliss Yost, who survives. He is also survived by two sons, Jeffrey Alan Yost and wife, Cindy, of Fairfax, Peter Gregory Yost and wife, Gina, of Broadway; six grandchildren, Jordan Yost and wife, Katie, Jennaveve, Tyler, Keely, Lindy and Christian Yost; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Elba Swaim, Ruth Julien, and Dr. Charles Peter Yost.

Honoring his wishes, he will be cremated and a memorial service will be held 2:00 pm, Sunday, October 1, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Jon Heeringa and Rev. Paul O'Gorek officiating. A reception will be at the church from 3:00-4:00 pm, following the memorial service. Inurnment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Massanetta Springs Camp & Conference Center, 712 Massanetta Springs Rd., Harrisonburg, VA 22801.
