Hersel C. (Whitey) Bare

Born in Ellensburg, Wash. on May 12, 19__ and passed away on Sept 15, 2010 in Eureka, California. Whitey moved to California in 1951 with 1st wife Donna, son Gary, later Sandy his daughter was born.Whitey worked at Arcata Plywood for 24 years working with Merle Haggard. Whitey took a different career move when he started bartending at The Mad Hatter. In 1977 he started working at The Schooner and bought it July 1, 1980. Whitey worked hard and passed on a lot of good memories to a lot of people. His most memorable time was in Sept 1998 when Kid Rock performed at The Schooner. Whitey is preceded in death by his parents Claude and Elvira, brothers Clarence, Max, Mill, Doc; sisters Gladys and Elvira, Hazel and son Gary (Butch). Whitey is survived by his girlfriend of 34 years Bonnie Machado of Eureka, brother Glen in Ellensburg, daughter Sandy Bare Ritchey and husband Andy of Sacramento, sons wife Debbie of Rio Dell, Granddaughters Asheena and Michael Archambault of Sacramento, Shayla and Kyle Murchie of North Dakota, Grandson Benjamin of Sacramento. Whitey was especially proud of his grandson Benjamin who hopefully will be a great pitcher for the San Francisco Giants. Whitey is survived by nephews and nieces too many to mention by name. Whitey touched may lives both good and bad. He will be remembered for his great pool games and all the fun times in Reno. A memorial service will be held at The Schooner on Oct 2 at 6pm.
