Life wasn't always easy for Mrs. O'Neal. She grew up on a small farm in South Texas during the depression. She became infected with tuberculosis when Peggy was just a baby and spent some time in a sanitarium away from her family. When WWII started, she stayed home in San Antonio, caring for their young daughter while her husband was overseas. Upon retirement, the O'Neals moved back to the family farm, raising cattle and beautiful vegetable gardens. In 1991, they moved to Nacogdoches, Texas, to be closer to her daughter, Marsha. Mrs. O'Neal was an active member of First Baptist Church.

Mrs. O'Neal was an accomplished seamstress. She made clothes for both daughters, sewing Easter dresses and designing evening gowns. She later began quilting, hand piecing all of her quilts.

Cooking was another of her talents. She always enjoyed cooking for family and friends. There wasn't a Sunday that went by when she wasn't cooking for the preacher or church family. In her later years she baked pies as Christmas presents for neighbors and friends. She always baked oatmeal raisin cookies when she and her girls went on road trips.

We will miss her and her quiet spirit.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. O'Neal's name to First Baptist Church of Nacogdoches or to Hospice of East Texas.
