Homer Lee Harris, 88, of Raphine, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2016 at his residence. He was born in Jefferson County, West Virginia on November 26, 1928, a son of the late Roy Baxter and Grace Catherine (Duval) Harris.
Homer was a hardworking man; working different jobs around the area. He was a member of the Blue Ridge Moose Lodge. During his free time, he greatly enjoyed watching wrestling, westerns and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gladys (Bradley) Harris; a son, Kenneth L. Harris; siblings, Roy Baxter Harris, Jr., Harold N. Harris, Roger Harris, David Harris, Marie Harris, Faye Darlene Gibson and Carl Glenn Harris.
Survivors include his son, Jeffrey L. Harris and his wife, Lois, of Glasgow; five daughters, Glenda Kennedy and her fiancé, Buddy Hunt, of Raphine, Carolyn Johnson and her husband, Grover, of Greenville, Sandra Riner and her husband, Ralph Jr., of Greenville, Patricia Waldron and her husband, James, of Fort Pierce, Florida, Karen Patterson and her fiancé, Virgil McCoy, Jr. of Waynesboro; 15 grandchildren, 32 great- grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; a sister, Evelyn Elaine Fitzgerald of Raphine; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at the Stuarts Draft Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with Pastor Dennis Bradley officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Steeles Tavern.
Serving as active and honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 26, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Hospice of the Shenandoah, his daughter, Glenda Kennedy and his granddaughter, Melissa Doyle for their loving care of Homer and his family.
