Obituary

Homer Wilson, Jr. was born on Tuesday, July 6, 1965 at Charles Miller Hospital in Saint Paul, Minnesota to Homer and Minerva Sanders Wilson. He was the youngest of four children born to this union. Gregory, Roland and Rhonda welcomed their baby brother with love. Homer attended Maxfield and Galtier Elementary Schools and Wilson Junior High School. Upon graduation from Central High School in 1983, Homer matriculated to Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana. During his senior year in college, Homer was awarded the title of "Mr. Marketing of Xavier University". Homer graduated from Xavier University in 1988 with a degree in marketing. At the graduation ceremony, Homer received the honor of having the highest grade point average of all the marketing graduates with a 4.0 grade point average. During his time at Xavier, Homer met his soul mate, Corliss Hawkins, who would become his wife. They celebrated thirty years of marriage on November 26, 2018. Homer and Corliss were blessed with three sons, Christian Dominique William, Cameron Homer, and Chandler Corey Wilson.

Homer was employed with Ford Motor Company in New Orleans for twenty years as a District Manager. He effectively managed day-to-day operations at 90 Ford/Lincoln dealerships in Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast region, representing up to 30 million dollars in annual revenue. Upon moving to Chicago, Homer was employed with General Motors as a District Manager. While residing in New Orleans, Homer was a member of Franklin Avenue Baptist Church.

During his childhood, Homer and his three siblings received additional family members when their father wed Ruth Wilson, who became a second mother to them. The family expanded and Homer gained four siblings. On January 7, 1973 (his mother's birthday), Homer was baptized along with his sister, Rhonda, at Mount Olivet Baptist Church in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Homer was very family-oriented and enjoyed attending family reunions, laughing and joking with his cousins. He was also blessed to travel extensively while working at Ford Motor Company. He was known as a technology whiz. His passion was music and movies.

Homer was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Minerva Wilson; beloved father, Deacon Homer Wilson, Sr.; and his brother, Aaron Bennett.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Corliss Wilson; his sons, Christian Dominique William, Cameron Homer of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Chandler Corey Wilson, of Oswego; his mother, Ruth Wilson of Saint Paul, Minnesota; his mother-in-law, Betty Floyd of New Orleans, LA; his father-in-law, Shelby Hawkins of Birmingham, Alabama; his brothers, Rev. Gregory Wilson of Los Angeles, California and Roland Wilson of Minneapolis, MN; his sisters, Rhonda (Rev. Donell) Wright of Houston, Texas, Cynthia (Charles) Butler of Orlando, Florida, Katherine Johnson of Kissimmee, Florida, Elaine Wilson of Houston, Texas; his nieces and nephews, Isaiah Wright, Jordan Wright, Kayla Wright, Quinyel French, Tashell French, Arias Johnson, Aaron Bennett, Kayla Bennett, and Joshua Delancey. He is also survived by four Aunts, Blondia Jordan of Hampton, Virginia, Willarene (James) Beasley of Roseville, Minnesota, Jacqueline (Percy) Hughes of Saint Paul, Minnesota, and Dorothy Little, of Indianapolis, Indiana; a special cousin Eric (Torri) Agnew of Saint Paul, along with a host of cousins.
His family will be receiving guests on Saturday, March 9, 2019 from 2 PM to 3 PM at The Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Pl., Aurora, IL 60506. His funeral service will immediately follow the visitation, at 3 PM.
