Huaying Mei, 85, of East Stroudsburg, PA passed away peacefully on February 21, 2017 at the PHS Hospice House. She was the loving wife of the late Jiaji Yan with whom she shared 66 years of marriage before his passing in 2014.
Born in Nanping, Fujian Province, China on August 13, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Yuxiang Mei and Xieshi Mei.
Huaying is remembered by her four devoted children as a loving mother, a strong woman, and an embracing and adaptive individual. She loved her family whole-heartedly. She fought adversities in her life fearlessly. She took on new challenges in her newly adopted country, America, with enthusiasm and unfailing courage. Huaying loved good food, game shows on Chinese TV, and learning English. She enjoyed spending every holiday with her children, grand and great grand-children, making sure everybody was happy and well-fed.
Huaying earned her education in China and continued in the educational field as an administrator at the Tongji University in Shanghai, China. She resided in China with her husband and family for over 60 years before immigrating to the United States. Once in the US, she taught herself English and continued to study the language at an elderly age.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons: Wenfan Yan and his wife Xianghong Gong, of Boston, MA; Wenjie Yan and his partner Roger Shields, of East Stroudsburg, PA; her daughters: Wenbin Yan and her husband Liming Yang, of Shanghai, China; Xiayuan Yan and her husband Yu Cao, of East Stroudsburg, PA; her grandchildren: Ming Yan and her husband Wes Patterson, of Boston, MA; Ling Yang and her husband Gan Yang, of Shanghai, China; Weien Cao and Weida Cao, both of East Stroudsburg; Also, her great-granddaughter: Jingwen Yang.
A public viewing will be held at 2 pm until the time of the service, Sunday, February 26, 2017 at The Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301. The Funeral Prayer Service will begin at 4pm. Graveside services will take place at 11 am on Monday, February 27, 2016 at The Laurelwood Cemetery, 901 Bryant Street, Stroudsburg, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Vision Loss of Monroe County and American Cancer Society.
