Mrs. Iluminada L. Sambo, "Aida", died in the early morning hours of Monday, June 25, 2017. She was under homecare for rehabilitation for recurrent falls. She fainted Saturday morning of June 24. She was weak and had trouble eating. We called 911 Fire Station because she was under homecare and they know her and took her immediately for tests at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston. She was stable then but in the following early morning hours she had a cardiac arrest, was revived but another one occurred but was not revived. She died in the early morning hours of the following day. Mrs. Iluminada L. Sambo was 85 and was born November 29, 1931 in Rosales, Pangasinan. Her husband Jose R. Sambo JR. died 25 years ago August 3, 1991. He was 64 years old. Mr. Jose R. Sambo was the Vice President and Director of the Manila Chronicle in the Philippines. My mother, Iluminada Sambo was a second Lieutenant Nurse in the Philippine Army. She was married to my father April 27, 1958 at Rosales Pangasinan Church, her hometown. She became a Public Health Nurse after she was married to my father. In 1966 she applied and was accepted as an Exchange Student Nurse at Albert Einstein Hospital in Philadelphia. When she passed her Nursing Board Exam, Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago hired her as a permanent Staff Nurse.
Her husband and their three children emigrated to the U.S. July 21, 1973. The eldest Jose L. Sambo III is 58 years old. The second eldest, Joel L. Sambo is 56 years old. He has been retired 10 years from the US Army and is married to Lisa Sambo. And the youngest child, a daughter, Jocelyn L. Sambo, 52 years old, is a PhD recruitment. Mrs. Sambo will be buried next to her husband at Rosehill Cemetery in Roger's Park in Chicago, Illinois.
