Mr. Ira Wilson "Bill" Good, 90, of Shenandoah, died Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Oak Lea Nursing Home in Harrisonburg.
A son of the late Robert J. and Lydia Grimsley Good, he was born on April 30, 1921 in Page County.
Mr. Good graduated from Shenandoah High School and had been employed 42 years with the Norfolk & Western Railway, now Norfolk Southern, as an engineer.
He served in the India-Burma Theatre with the U.S. Army from 1941-1943 during World War II and received the Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Ribbon. Mr. Good was a member of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church, but had been attending the Shenandoah Baptist Church. He was a member of the Shenandoah Lion's Club, the Avis Comer VFW Post #8613, the American Legion, the Masonic Lodge, and former member and chairman of the Page County School Board. He also enjoyed antique automobiles.
On October 6, 1948 he married Almeda Shifflette Good, who preceded him in death on April 3, 2006.
He is survived by two sons, W.R. Good, and wife Carolyn, of Elkton, and Eric Good, of Waynesboro; four grandchildren, Matthew, Simon, Ethan, and Sydney; two brothers, Carlos Good and James Good, both of Luray; a special nephew, Bill Shifflette, of New Market, and a special brother-in-law, James E. Shifflette, of McGaheysville.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 18, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at the Shenandoah Baptist Church with the Rev. Hudson Nuckols and Father James Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Community Cemetery with Military and Masonic Rites.
The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Shenandoah Baptist Church or at the home of his son, W.R. at anytime.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shenandoah Rescue Squad or to the Shenandoah Baptist Church in his memory.
