The talented hands of a skilled quilter have gone quiet with the passing of Irene Elizabeth Sliwinski 90 of Keene, NH who passed away peacefully on November 23, 2017 at the Keene Center Genesis, Court Street, Keene.

Her parents, James F.X. and Rose A. (Zeto) Cook welcomed their daughter into the world on December 18, 1926 in Jamaica, New York.

Irene resided in Commack, New York for many years before coming to Keene in 1984.

She worked for over 10 years in the credit union of Unis Systems in Great Neck, New York.

Irene's talented hands created many wonderful hooked rugs and quilts over the years, and she was a longtime member of the Monadnock Quilters Guild. Her hands also guided her as an active volunteer at the Cheshire Medical Center in Keene, as well as at the Keene Swamp Bat Games, always pitching in to help out whenever she was needed.

She had a deep abiding faith and was a longtime parishioner of St. Bernard Church in Keene, and attended weekly rosary services held at the Keene Center Genesis.

Irene will be greatly missed by her extended family at Genesis who graciously cared for her like a member of their own family; her brother, James Cook of Obion, TN; two nieces, Donna Morelli of Chelmsford, MA and Debra Timmins of Pottstown, PA and a nephew, Jay Cook of Laconia, NH; and her friend, Regina Miner, of Keene. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward J. Sliwinski on August 15, 1995; and a sister, Patricia Roach.

Irene will be laid to rest with her husband in the Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, New York.

For those who wish, donations may be made in Mrs. Sliwinski's memory to the Resident Activity Fund at the Keene Center Genesis, 677 Court Street, Keene, NH 03431.
