Irene "Renee" Mitchell of Princeton, passed away Saturday evening, February 7, 2015 at home surrounded by loving family and under the wonderful care of U.P. Home Health and Hospice. Renee was born on January 26, 1945 in Newport, Rhode Island. She was the daughter of the late Peter and Viola Zaloumis. On December 13, 1969 she married the love of her life, Boyne D. Mitchell. In January 1970, never having experienced a "U.P." winter, they arrived in Gwinn during a terrible blizzard. So strong was her love for Boyne she ignored her instinct to turn around and go back to her beloved Rhode Island. Together they raised their family and enjoyed big family celebrations. Renee was very proud of her Greek heritage and many people enjoyed her Greek pastry. She loved playing Bingo and looked forward to seeing her Bingo buddies every Monday and Tuesday. Renee is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Boyne Mitchell; her siblings, Charles, Paul and Tony Zaloumis; best friend Carolyn Paquin; children, Kenny Rider, Vicki (Chip) Nelson, Tina Mitchell, Christina (Bob) O'Day, Dawn Mitchell; cherished grandchildren, Craig Nelson, Bobby Nelson, Devin Alessandroni, Athena Potier, Alyssia (Zach) Nunez, Megan O'Day, Dylan Landers, Lucas Rider, Malona (Travis) Gould, Dana Lee Rider, Brett Rider, Jason Rider, Melissa Rider; seven beloved great-grandchildren; and her faithful pets, Chloe and Flicka. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 13, 2015 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Canale-Gwinn Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: Cancer Care of Marquette County or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. Memories of Renee may be shared at canalefuneral.com
