Irene P. Bonczyk, 86, of Springfield, passed away on Friday, May 19, 2017 at Bickford House with her family by her side.

She was born on April 11, 1931 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of the late Joseph and Stephanie (Sarna) Ilkanic. She married Bruno Bonczyk in Chicago, IL in 1951 and he preceded her in death on Nov. 17, 2012.

Irene lived in the East Alton , IL area for over 40 years before moving with her husband to Springfield 10 years ago. She retired from an office position with Miller's Mutual Insurance Co. Above all, she was a mother who fiercely loved her children and grandchildren. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Springfield. She contributed and put together gift baskets for the children at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. Her family and friends meant everything to her!

She is survived by her 3 children, Bruce (wife Margi) Bonczyk, Barbara (husband Bob) Whitworth , and Beverly (husband David) Stock; and her grandchildren, Claire (husband Dan) Whitworth-Folsom, and Tyler Stock. She was a loyal friend to many and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Besides her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by a grandson Bradley Stock, and 4 brothers, Joseph Jr., Eugene, Robert, and Richard Ilkanic.

Services are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd., Springfield where visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 from 4 to 7 pm. Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 10:30 am at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Ave, Springfield, with Father Robert Jallas officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield.

Memorials may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
