Isabel Marie Giroux
December 14, 1929 - May 20, 2017
Isabel Giroux passed away peacefully in her Falls Church home with loved ones beside her. She leaves a family eternally grateful to have shared so many years with her. Her devoted husband and friend of sixty-one years, Albert Giroux, survives her, as do their five children and their spouses; Jeanette and Tom Ghesquiere of Satellite Beach, Florida, Isabel and Jim Hauswirth of Utica, Michigan, Arthur and Glenda (Cruz) Giroux, Marie Giroux and Peter Super, and Paul and Marny (Waynick) Giroux, all of Northern Virginia. Isabel's memory will also live on in those who called her "Granny": Annette, Mary, John Paul, Keith, Kateri, Dennis, Corinne, Derek, Luke, Jason, Sara, Orion, Lorena and Tanner. She is also survived by her sister and mentor, Veronica DiDomenico.
Isabel was born in Jersey City, NJ on December 14, 1929, to Isabel and Arthur Early. She was raised in Stratford, CT, and attended Lauralton Hall. Isabel then followed Veronica to St. Vincent's School of Nursing in Bridgeport, where she became an RN. The newly-pinned nurse worked briefly in California, Florida, and Manhattan. She was soon swept off her feet by Al. Only one week after their wedding, they moved to Manila. From there, Al's career with the IRS sent the young family to Detroit, Mexico City, Venezuela, and finally, Washington DC. Isabel was active in embassy, church, school and social groups on four continents. Her energy, compassion, and radiance drew people to her everywhere she lived.
In her senior years, Isabel embraced full-time grandparenting. Several grandchildren enjoyed the luxury of years of her loving care. In later years, she also became a Depression Glass dealer, with Albert by her side. Once again, Isabel built strong relationships, with customers and other collectors quickly becoming friends.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Isabel are asked to make a donation in her name to Catholic Charities, Diocese of Arlington. Friends may visit at Murphy Funeral Home, 1102 West Broad Street, Falls Church on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 from 4 to 8 PM. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 11 AM at St. Philip Catholic Church, 7500 St. Philip's Court, Falls Church, VA.
