Mr. J.W. "Pete" Phillips Jr. passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2017, in Nacogdoches, Texas, at the age of 87.

He was born March 17, 1930, in Nacogdoches County, Texas, to parents J.W. and Sudie (McAfee) Phillips. Pete had lived in Martinsville, Texas, for the past several years.

During the Korean Conflict, Mr. Phillips proudly served his country with the U.S. Air Force, having attained the rank of staff sergeant. After his military service, he began working at NIBCO where he was an exemplary employee with faithfulness and dedication for over 40 years. He had attended Westside Missionary Baptist Church.

Pete exhibited a great joy for fishing and duck hunting during his life. He was a proud graduate of Woden High School and throughout the years, he was faithful to support his alma mater attending the Woden Eagles' basketball games. He also loved watching football on television, faithfully supporting the Dallas Cowboys.

His survivors include his daughters, Wanda A. Sanches of Martinsville, Texas, Debra G. Jacildo of Owensboro, Kentucky, and Patricia G. Grimes of Zavalla, Texas; grandchildren, Stephanie Delacruz, Ronald Curry, Jessica Hall, Roxanne Woodard, Heather Thrash, Tommy Grimes, Jason Phillips , and Justin Phillips; and 19 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Mae Phillips, in 2006; a son, John Wayne Phillips, in 1988; and all of his brothers and sisters.

Funeral services are set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday, September 24, 2017, at Cason Monk-Metcalf's Sunset Chapel, located at 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches, Texas, with Bro. Joshua Sanford officiating. Interment will follow at Saints Rest Cemetery, located off County Road 538 in Nacogdoches County, Texas, with military rites by Barksdale Air Force Base and the Patriot Guard Riders.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, September 23, 2017, at the funeral home.
