Jack Gilbert Yalden

Jack Gilbert Yalden, 74, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2012, in Orem of a heart attack. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Our lives are forever changed and we will miss him dearly.

Jack was born on October 20, 1937, in Long Beach, California. Son of Jack and Chloell Yalden. He had 2 sisters, Pat and Christine. He grew up in California and graduated from Downey High School in 1955. He served in the US Coast Guard. He served a mission for the LDS church in the Central States. When he returned from his mission he baptized his high school sweetheart, Barbara Riley. They were married on December 5, 1959, and sealed in the Los Angeles Temple on October 28, 1960. They had 4 children, Kellie, Kimberly, Jacquelyn, and Steve.

He worked at the Long Beach Harbor as a Checker. He graduated from the Police Academy in Los Angeles County and was also a volunteer for the Orem City Police Department. He entered the financial world in 1967 as a stockbroker and was also a financial planner for Putnam, McNeil, Integrated Resources, and managed 20 offices for Benevest, and held a Series 7 license.

Jack loved tennis, water skiing, reading the Wall Street Journal, vacations with family, lunches with his sweetheart and constant companion, and was famous for his daily walks around the neighborhood and community. Jack was Bishop of the BYU 203rd Ward from 2001 to 2004. Jack and Barbara served an LDS mission to the Hilo Hawaiian Island.

He constantly amazed everyone around him with his knowledge and his ability to recall anything he had read. He loved the scriptures, the gospel, and the Lord. He had a great gift for teaching and speaking.

Jack is survived by his wife, Barbara, his children, Kellie Thayer (Kelly), Kimberly Relf (Peter), Jacquelyn Mehlhoff (Taryn), and Steve Yalden, 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, sisters, Pat and Christine, and many other relatives. Preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and his grandson, Riley Yalden Thayer. Jack will be greatly missed and will always be forever in our hearts. A viewing will be held on Sunday, March 18th at Walker Sanderson, 646 East 800 North, Orem, UT 84097, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the Sharon Stake Center, 545 South 800 East, Orem, UT 84097, on Monday, March 19th at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
