Jacob Ashendorf died in his sleep of natural causes on March 30, 2017, in the assisted living facility of The Cove at Lake Woods, Muskegon, MI at the age of 98. Burial was held at Mona View Cemetery on March 31. Rabbi Alan Alpert officiated, and Gary Reynolds of the American Legion led the honor guard.

A graduate of Muskegon High School, Jacob served as a sergeant in North Africa and Italy during World War 2, earning the Purple Heart. Afterward, he founded Northwestern Mill Supply, primarily a retailer of professional automotive repair equipment, which he managed for close to five decades on Pine Street. During this time he was an active, lifelong member of Temple B'nai Israel.

Jacob, a son of Samuel and Ida (nee Warsaw) Ashendorf, was predeceased by his wife of 43 years Dana and his four brothers Maxwell, Harold, Abraham, and Isidore. He is survived by his son Arthur and grandson Jacob, both of Costa Mesa, CA.
