Jacqueline A. Ratcliffe
12-22-35 to 08-23-14

Psalms 116:15 - "Precious in the sight of the Lord, is the death of His saints."

Jacqueline Avalon Woods Ratcliffe, lifetime resident of Jackson, passed peacefully from this earth on August 23, 2014 with her daughters by her side. She was 78. Jacqueline, better known as Jackie, was the wife of the late Tully Joe Ratcliffe. She is survived by four children from prior marriages including John Thomas Martin of Winona, Mississippi; William Douglas Martin of Ackerman, Mississippi; Vicki J. Parker of Birmingham, Alabama; and Melanie C. Ables (Harry) of Madison, Mississippi.

Jackie had a philanthropic spirit and a deep devotion to God. She was a member of Trace Ridge Baptist Church in Ridgeland for nearly 20 years and diligently served in the church’s children ministry. She was subsequently devoted to Grace Baptist Church for five years where she continued teaching pre-schoolers to love the Lord.

During her life, Jackie founded and served as president of the Historical and Genealogical Society of Mississippi for 20 years. Before her death, she gifted her work and genealogy collections to the McCain Library on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. Jackie was also devoted to Mended Hearts, an affiliate of The American Heart Association. Surviving a rare mixoma in 1985 and a stroke in 1991, she then served as a member and Newsletter Editor for nearly 30 years. Her dedication to a healthy heart paid off - it was a rare cancer that took her from us.

In addition to her four children, Jackie is survived by eight grandchildren including Brian C. Carroll of Jackson; Kayla Ables of Charleston, West Virginia; Kristopher Ables of Hinesville, Georgia; Kane Martin of Grayson, Georgia; Tara LaSuzzo of Westpoint; Jennifer T. Parker of Hattiesburg; Jennifer Martin of Winona; and Anna K. Ables of Madison. She also had eight great grandchildren at the time of her passing.

Memorial services will be held at Grace Baptist Church in Jackson on August 30, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. CST. At her request, there will be no prior visitation or graveside service. Gift memorials may be mailed to Mended Hearts at P. O. Box 16572, Jackson, Mississippi 39236; or Grace Baptist Church, 5536 Ridgewood Road, Jackson, Mississippi 39211. Those who loved and knew Jackie, will sorely miss her.
