We come together today to honor the life of James Allen Scott Jr. Beloved brother, son, uncle, cousin and friend.
James Allen Scott, Jr. was born in Columbia, SC on April 18th, 1960 to the late James A. Scott, Sr. and Marie C. Scott.
In 1962 the family moved to New York and settled in the borough of Queens.
James attended Public School 143, Junior High School 73, and then Flushing High School where he loved sports and excelled in track & field and football.
He became the starting running back for Flushing High School Red Devils football team. James entered the work force, after high school, and was attracted to occupations that allowed him personal contact with people. He enjoyed the customer service aspect of his jobs. He chose careers that allowed managerial advancement, and he always advanced to the position of manager. As his work career advanced he found working in Queens allowed him to be closer to family, which he preferred. In his leisure time, he enjoyed watching Jets football, Knicks basketball, cooking and working on cars. He refused to pay a mechanic until he broke something twice! In rain, heat or cold (usually very cold) he would get one of his brothers to hold the flashlight or wrench so he could display his mechanical abilities. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and admiring the beauty of this country. James enjoyed providing assistance to family and friends whenever they needed him. He never refused a call for help. His career path took him to Tom Cat Bakery in Long Island City Queens, where in 17 years of employment he ascended the ranks to become Distribution Manager. This position afforded him the opportunity to travel along the East Coast during the performance of his duties. At Tom Cat, he developed lasting friendships with many of his co-workers. They in turn enjoyed his friendship and having him as part of their team. On the morning of November 10th, 2017, while at work, James experienced a medical emergency and was immediately aided by those he worked with. His co-workers traveled to the hospital with him, where sadly, James was taken away from us much too soon. Numerous Tom Cat employees remained with James, at Mount Sinai Hospital in Queens, until his family members arrived - which his family will be forever grateful for.
Although he was known as James Scott to some of his friends and co-workers, he will always be affectionately known as "Beaver" to his Family and close friends. Beaver will be remembered by his family with tears, then with smiles and forever with the warmth, compassion and love he displayed to all.
May his soul rest in peace and be accepted into the Kingdom of Heaven.
