James A. Miles, age 93, of Pasadena, California went home to Heaven after a lengthy illness on December 20,2017.



James was born in Sioux City, Iowa on August 27, 1924 to James and Ellen (Condon) Miles. James spent his childhood on a farm near Storm Lake, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Church. James was the second, of four children; Regina (Young), James, Gerald and Franklin. James attended school in Sulpher Springs, Iowa. In July of 1944 James was inducted into the U.S. Army. He served in the Philippines during WWII. He obtained the rank of PFC and was awarded the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon (with 1 Bronze Battle Star), the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, one Overseas Service Bar and a Good Conduct Medal. James was honorably discharged on June 27, 1946.



After battling health problems, caused by severe Midwest winters, James left for California where he lived his remaining years. James worked for the Los Angeles City Parks Department until his retirement.



James made a return trip to Iowa nearly every year to visit his parents. He also enjoyed his "midnight special" trips to Las Vegas. Politics was a favorite topic of conversation. James enjoyed coffee time with his friends. The Church was especially important to James.



Many nieces, nephews and cousins are left to cherish his memories.
